FAQs

How do I receive my photos?
All of your scans will be delivered as high quality JPEGs. You will receive your photos via WeTransfer and a link will be sent directly to your email. If you’re on desktop, you will receive them in a zipped folder. If you’re on your phone, they will download as individual JPEGs. Your original negatives/prints will be returned to you safely and securely after scanning is complete.

What is DPI and why is it important?
DPI stands for Dots Per Inch and is a measure of resolution in digital imaging. DPI affects the size and quality of an image so the higher the DPI value, the sharper and crisper the image will be. Images with low DPI tend to look pixelated or blurry. 1200 DPI is high-enough in quality to allow for seamless posting on social media and printing without loss of quality/pixelization. Higher DPI scanning can be requested for an additional cost.

I have photo prints AND 35mm negatives, which ones are better to scan?
Scanning negatives is preferred to prints because:

  • Scans from negatives are much higher quality since negatives are the original media and some quality and details can be lost in the printing process (this can vary greatly depending on the lab that printed them)

  • With the use of Negative Lab Pro for the conversion process, the colours and details of your photos will be top-of-the-line. Click here to learn more about Negative Lab Pro

How long will it take to scan my photos?
The standard turnaround time for most client orders is two weeks. Faster turnaround can be requested, at an additional cost.

Do you manipulate the negatives/prints at all?
You can trust your photos will be handled with care and will be returned to you exactly as you provided (film roll canister, film sheet, photo album, etc.). If you are providing me with full, uncut rolls of film negatives, please be advised that I will have to cut them into 6-exposure strips to fit into my scanner properly. If your film negatives are cut individually or in smaller strips, that is not a problem. If you are providing a photo album, please ensure that I am able to remove the individual prints. I am not able to scan full pages of photo albums at this time.

Do you develop film as well?
I currently do not offer film development as a service. I take my film to Photo Metro in North Bay and they send film away to a lab in Toronto to get developed at a reasonable price.

Fill out this form below with your details and include how many rolls of film/prints you would like scanned and we’ll iron out the details.
